Baptized With Fire
Sunday, March 9
Matthew 3:11 (NIV)
“I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”
Devotion
John the Baptist prepared the way for Jesus, calling people to repentance through water baptism. But he also pointed to a greater baptism, one of the Holy Spirit and fire. This baptism is not just a symbolic act; it is an empowerment from God to live out His purpose for our lives.
Jesus came not only to save us but to equip us. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is his gift to every believer, filling us with his presence, power, and boldness. It is through this baptism that we receive divine strength to overcome fear, live righteously, and walk in the supernatural power of God.
In Acts 1:8, Jesus told his disciples, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses…” This promise was fulfilled at Pentecost when the Spirit descended like tongues of fire, transforming ordinary men into bold witnesses of Christ. That same power is available to us today!
If you desire the baptism of the Holy Spirit, ask in faith. Luke 11:13 assures us that the Father gives the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him. Surrender your heart fully to God, believe in His promise, and open yourself to receive. When the Holy Spirit fills you, He will ignite a fire within you that cannot be quenched, a fire to live boldly, to walk in purpose, and to bring His kingdom to the world.
Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the promise of the Holy Spirit. I desire to be filled with Your power so that I can live fully for You. Baptize me with Your Holy Spirit and fire. Remove any fear, doubt, or hindrance in my heart. Fill me with boldness, wisdom, and a passion for Your kingdom. Let my life reflect Your glory as I walk in the power of Your Spirit. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Apply It Today
Take time today to ask God to baptize you with the Holy Spirit. Position yourself in worship and prayer, surrendering fully to Him. If you have already received this baptism, ask God for a fresh filling of His Spirit to walk in greater boldness and power.
