Dressed And Ready

Wednesday, April 22

Luke 12:35-36 (NKJV)

““Let your waist be girded and your lamps burning;and you yourselves be like men who wait for their master, when he will return from the wedding, that when he comes and knocks they may open to him immediately.”

Devotion

In his message on Sunday, John Bevere, gave us many synonyms for “arrival”:

“Setting our sights, expecting, expectation, eagerly waiting, eagerly awaiting, preparation.”

When we are constantly looking through the windows of the house to see our bridegroom approaching, so as not to be caught off guard, even in the dark of the night, we make sure the porch light is on, all the drapes are open, and every light in the house is lit.

One knock is required—not two—because we are quite aware that He is on the way.

Our expectation of Jesus’ arrival is mounting, and the sound of that knock shall be ever intensifying!

Who of us shall be the first to answer the door?

May we all answer the door at the same time, because we are surely dressed and ready to meet Him.

Let us remain clothed in righteousness, our hearts purified and our lamps burning bright, not growing weary in watchfulness. May our lives reflect a continual “yes” to Him—set apart, attentive, and filled with faith—so that at His appearing, we are not scrambling to prepare, but already found abiding in Him. In this posture of readiness, we live with joy, peace, and unwavering hope, knowing that the One we await is faithful—and His coming is sure.

Today's Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Set my heart in a posture of expectation. Keep my eyes fixed on You and my life prepared for Your coming. Clothe me in righteousness, purify my heart, and keep my lamp burning with faith and devotion. Let me not grow weary in waiting, but remain watchful, ready, and full of hope. May my life be a continual “yes” to You until the day I see You face to face. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
