Get Baptized Now

Acts 2:38-39 (NKJV)
“Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
Devotion
Are we walking with the Lord and yet remain unbaptized? The beginning of this passage states that we are to repent of our sins. The next statement is to turn to God. Whether we believe we can have a relationship with God without being baptized, what matters is what God says, not what we think. The following assertion says, “be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.” Here is another verse among many where God speaks about baptism, 1 Peter 3:21 “and that water is a picture of baptism, which now saves you, not by removing dirt from your body, but as a response from a clean conscience. It is effective because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” What matters is what God says about baptism, not what we think.
Baptism is such a pivotal moment in our walk with the Lord. Here are some of its powerful benefits:
- Acts 2:38 - All of our past wrongs are wiped clean.
- Acts 2:38 - We receive the Holy Spirit.
- Romans 6:4 - We have union with Christ in his death and resurrection.
- 2 Corinthians 5:17 - We become a new creation. Our thoughts, motives, perception of life, and purpose are lined up with who God calls us to be.
- Galatians 3:27 - We are clothed with Christ. We were once clothed with the sin of this world, but now we are clothed with Jesus.
- 1 Corinthians 12:13 - We are a part of the body of Christ, a community, a church and we do not have to go through life alone.
- 1 Peter 3:21 - We have a clear conscience before God, an honest, repentant heart. We are open to God’s leading.
Why contemplate baptism? There is so much we gain. As Acts 2:39 says,”… this promise is to you, all who have been called by the Lord our God.” It is a promise to those who have been called by God, a declaration that He will fulfill. Why wait? Get baptized now, what matters is what God says about baptism, not what we think.

Thank You for the gift of salvation and the promise of new life through Jesus Christ. Thank You for calling me to Yourself. Today, I open my heart in obedience to Your Word. If there is anything holding me back from taking the next step in baptism, reveal it and remove it. Help me to walk in full surrender to your will. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
