Giant In Us vs. Giants Around Us

2 Samuel 21:15-17 (ESV)
“There was war again between the Philistines and Israel, and David went down together with his servants, and they fought against the Philistines. And David grew weary. And Ishbi-benob, one of the descendants of the giants, whose spear weighed three hundred shekels of bronze, and who was armed with a new sword, thought to kill David. But Abishai the son of Zeruiah came to his aid and attacked the Philistine and killed him. Then David’s men swore to him, “You shall no longer go out with us to battle, lest you quench the lamp of Israel.”
Devotion
In 2 Samuel 21:15-17, David — the giant killer who had slain Goliath — grew faint in battle against a new Philistine giant, Ishbi-Benob. The son of the giant nearly killed him, but Abishai, a new generation of giant killer, stepped in, struck the Philistine down, and saved King David. David’s men then insisted he stay back from the front lines, declaring, “You shall no longer go out with us to battle, lest you quench the lamp of Israel.” Even the greatest warrior needed help when weariness, fatigue, and old age set in. Pastor Jentezen reminded us on Father’s Day that giants still fall, but sometimes even the greatest of champions needs a giant killer to stand with him.
God never intended us to fight alone. We don’t know the height, muscle mass, or bicep size of the giant killers, because it’s not man against giant, but the Giant in us versus the giants around us.
Today, if you feel weary in your battles as a father, leader, or believer, remember you don’t have to fight in your own strength. Sure, giants are big and loud, yet there are no GIANT giant killers — but there are giant killers. Let others in the body of Christ stand with you, rely on the power of God within, and keep trusting that every giant will fall when the Lord fights for you.
Today's Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
I thank You that You are greater than anything I will ever face. Your Word remains the same yesterday, today, and forever. It says, “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” So, I hand over to You every challenge, anxiety, and fear that I face. I call upon Your name and ask for victory over every single one. I trust You, Lord. Cause me to hear Your voice and walk in Your ways. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Apply It Today
When life becomes overwhelming, pause for a moment and pray. Turn to the One who lives within you—Jesus Christ—and ask for His help and intervention. And don't wait for a crisis to come. Build your faith now in God's promises for healing, protection, provision, favor, and more. Search them out in God's Word and begin to meditate on them. Faith will be there when you need it.
