God’s Plans Never Change

Sunday, March 16

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
““For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Devotion

Life often throws unexpected challenges our way, setbacks, disappointments, and seasons of uncertainty that make us question what God is doing. In those moments, it’s easy to wonder if God’s plans for our lives have shifted or if we’ve somehow missed His purpose. But Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us of a powerful truth: God's plans for us are good, and they never change.

The Israelites heard this promise while in exile, feeling forgotten and lost. Yet God assured them that despite their current circumstances, His purpose for their lives remained intact. He was not finished with them, and He is not finished with us.

Sometimes, what we see as detours are actually part of God's design. The delays, the closed doors, and even the painful moments do not mean His plans have failed. He is still working, even when we don’t understand. His plan is always for our good to give us a future and a hope.

If you’re in a season where things don’t make sense, hold on to this truth: God is faithful. His promises stand firm. He is guiding you, shaping you, and leading you toward the future He has prepared. Trust that what He has spoken over your life will come to pass, in His perfect timing.

Today’s Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
I thank You that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to Your purpose. I confess I often wonder whether this promise applies to me, as well as wondering if I am one who has good things coming as a hope and a future, or whether my cold heart and past sins have marked me for judgment rather than for blessing. O Lord God, help me to love You with all my heart and to fear You so much that I lay all my sins at the foot of the cross and come running to Your arms. Help me to seek Your face and Your purpose for my life, so I can live under the blessings promised in Scripture and not the judgments. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Apply It Today

As Israel waited for the promised hope and future, God told them to pray for the prosperity of the city they were in (Jeremiah 29:7), and they would share in the blessing. As you hold on to the long-term promises of God for your life, take time today to pray for your city and its leadership, for your church, and for your pastor.
