Grow In Grace

Jeremiah 34:18 (NIV)
“Those who have violated my covenant and have not fulfilled the terms of the covenant they made before me, I will treat like the calf they cut in two and then walked between its pieces.”
Devotion
We are asked to honor our faithfulness with God - we make promises to God and when
we fall short in disobedience to the covenant we made with Him, we are to bring our hands together to form back our unity. God is a God of grace and mercy. However, that does not give us an excuse to break our promises with Him.
In Jeremiah 34, God reminds the people of Judah of their broken promises of the
covenant they made to free their Hebrew slaves, only to later go back on their word.
The actions of the people of Judah unveiled their hearts in the way they treated God's
covenant lightly - prioritizing their own interests over obedience and justice. Because of their disobedience, God gave them judgment - He would allow them to suffer the consequences of their unfaithfulness, just as the torn calf symbolized.
The scripture in Jeremiah 34 is a reminder to us all how God truly takes the covenants we make with Him seriously. When the joining of hands in unity forms after a broken promise to our loving Father, God’s presence follows in - He shows up wherever there is unity. We are called to walk in obedience to the callings God places on our life and the words that are spoken; however, we are also human and fall short. But, because of Jesus and the sacrifice that he made for us all on the cross, we are given grace. Praise our Lord and Savior!
In any relationship, it is not you, the other person and then God… it is you, God, and the other person. God is our middle ground and looks when we reunite with faith. In the covenants we make with God in marriage, is a promise we shall keep, “And you ask ‘Why?’ Because even though the Lord has been a witness between you and the wife of your youth, you have acted treacherously against her. She was your marriage partner and your wife by covenant.” (Malachi 2:14 CSB).
Though Jesus made a new covenant in his blood that gives grace to all who believe in him, it does not excuse us from being unfaithful but instead strengthens us to walk in obedience. Grow in grace and unite in your faith.
Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the loving grace that You so graciously give us because of Your Son Jesus Christ. Thank You for the reminder today of Your faithfulness to us, and how we should follow after with our faithfulness to You Lord. Teach us to obey You in everything You call us to do and with every covenant we make with You God. In the Name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
