Growing In Grace

Sunday, February 16

2 Peter 3:17-18 (NIV)
“You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.”
Devotion
Spiritual growth is not an option, it is a necessity. Peter in today’s lead scripture, warns believers to guard against being led astray and instead to focus on growing in the grace and knowledge of Christ. This growth transforms our character, our relationships, and our ability to live in submission to God and one another.

One of the greatest challenges in relationships, whether in marriage, friendships, or community, is submission. In a world that promotes self-sufficiency and independence, submission is often misunderstood as weakness. Yet, in God's kingdom, submission is a demonstration of love, humility, and spiritual maturity.

To submit to one another is to serve one another as unto the Lord (Ephesians 5:21). It is an act of trust, knowing that as we yield to God's order, He works in and through us for His glory. This submission is not about control or loss of identity, but about reflecting Christ's heart. Jesus himself, though equal with God, humbled himself and became a servant (Philippians 2:5-8). His life teaches us that submission is not a burden but an expression of grace.

However, submission requires growth. We must grow in grace to love sacrificially, to serve without resentment, and to yield without fear. The more we immerse ourselves in God's Word, the more we understand His ways and align our hearts with His will. His Word teaches us not only what to do but how to do it, with joy, peace, and wisdom.

Are you struggling to submit in a certain relationship? Do you find it difficult to yield your will to serve someone else? Ask God to help you grow in grace. The more you know Him, the more you trust His design for relationships. And as you submit in love, you reflect Christ, bringing glory to His name.

Today’s Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
I thank You that You promise when I lack wisdom, You will give generously if I ask without finding fault. Give me greater discernment so that I can see when You are giving me wisdom directly, when You are speaking through Scripture, and when Your wisdom is flowing through the brothers and sisters You have placed in my life. Help me also be more diligent with Scripture: study, memorization, reading, singing. May Your word be written on my heart as guardrails for the words spoken by others into my life, and also so that I may be a more pure source of wisdom and counsel in their lives. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Apply It Today

Consider today’s verse in the context of serving relationships, whether you are serving with your spouse, people from your church, or believers who have gathered for a particular event. Next time you are in that situation, pray and make room in your heart for another person’s personality, gifts, and style. Let the Holy Spirit work in you and through you, so that you let your love for one another in the Lord show, rather than judging others based on personal preferences.
