Hidden Treasures And The Call To Seek The Lord
Thursday, February 26
Isaiah 45:3 (NIV)
“I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.”
Devotion
In Isaiah 45:3, God promises Cyrus literal riches hidden in secret vaults. These treasures were real wealth taken from nations such as Babylon. Yet the purpose was greater than material gain. God says He would do this “so that you may know that I am the LORD.” The blessing was meant to reveal His identity and authority.
Scripture leads us to see a deeper fulfillment of this promise. Jesus teaches, “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field” (Matthew 13:44, NIV). The true treasure is not gold, but the kingdom of God. It is worth more than everything else combined.
Jesus also commands, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven” (Matthew 6:19–20, NIV). Earthly wealth fades. Heavenly treasure remains. Our hearts follow what we value most, for “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21, NIV).
The deepest riches are found in Christ Himself. Paul writes of Jesus, “in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Colossians 2:3, NIV). Wisdom, peace, forgiveness, strength in suffering, and eternal life are treasures that cannot be stolen or destroyed.
Because of this eternal reality, the call today is clear. We are to draw people to seek the Lord while He may be found. “Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts” (Isaiah 55:6–7, NIV). True treasure begins with repentance and turning away from evil.
Jesus teaches that worship must be genuine and sincere. “True worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks” (John 4:23, NIV). God is not looking for outward religion. He desires hearts that repent, believe, and honor Him in truth.
The message we carry should lead people beyond temporary gain and toward eternal inheritance. The greatest treasure is not material blessing, but reconciliation with God and eternal life in His kingdom. When we turn from sin, seek His face, and worship Him in spirit and truth, we discover riches that will never fade.
Today's Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Turn our hearts away from temporary treasures and draw us toward Your eternal kingdom. Help us repent, seek You sincerely, and worship You in spirit and in truth. Reveal the hidden riches found in Christ, and lead many to know You as the LORD who calls us by name. In the Name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
