I’ve Got Promises

Thursday, June 13

2 Peter 1:4 (NIV)
“Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.“
Devotion
Around 65 A.D., the apostle Peter was imprisoned in Rome by Emperor Nero. When he realized that he would soon be executed, Peter penned his last letter. In 2 Peter, he encourages believers to grow deep in their understanding of Jesus and live life wholly in his name. Our relationship with Christ helps us to live right and brings the kingdom power and living hope into our lives.

Are you waiting for God’s great and precious promises to be fulfilled in your life? If so, while you wait, pursue righteousness and have hope by praying His Word over your life. Last Sunday, Pastor Javon told us to walk around saying, “I’ve got promises.” We should daily remind the evil desires that try to ensnare us that the problems and tests we face have promises, and He who promises is faithful.

And like Peter, we must not forget to encourage one another. In your walk with Jesus, what testimony of the Lord being your promise keeper can you share with the body of Christ today?

Today’s Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

The challenges of life can be overwhelming. Help us to live lives that glorify You as we look beyond our situation to the One from whom our help comes. Lead us as we search Your Scriptures to find promises that relate to our situation so we can pray them over our life and the lives of our loved ones. Teach us how to pray and trust You to bring Your promises to pass in our lives. You fulfilled Your promise to Abraham and gave him a son. Your promise that King David’s house would be spared from destruction came to pass. The Bible tells us that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. If promises were fulfilled in the past, then You will do the same for us today. In the Name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Apply It Today

The Bible is full of promises -and God is reliable. But who are those promises for? As you search the Scripture for promises to lay hold of, dig a little deeper to see who a particular promise is for. All of God’s creation? A particular group of people at a time and place? Followers of Jesus Christ? Consider, what is God looking for from you so that you can participate in a certain promise?
