Jesus Is Already On The Move

Luke 2:25 (NIV)
“At that time there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon. He was righteous and devout and was eagerly waiting for the Messiah to come and rescue Israel. The Holy Spirit was upon him.“
Devotion
Jesus is already on the move. Are we eagerly waiting? Are our eyes lifted? Are our hearts set on eternity?
Luke 2 gives us the picture of Simeon—righteous, devout, pure, led by the Spirit, and eagerly waiting for the Messiah. He did not live carelessly. He did not live distracted. He lived expectantly. Day after day, Simeon waited in the temple—serving, watching, praying, abiding, spending his life unto the Lord.
And though there were likely many moments across the years when the promise may have seemed far off, Simeon kept waiting. He kept believing. He kept showing up, because the promises of God are always worth waiting for.
What a word for us now. There is a tension in the days we are living in—you can feel it. The season we are in is reminding us that the longings in our hearts cannot be satisfied by anything on this side of eternity. Only Jesus. Only Heaven. Only the forever fullness of His presence.
We do not live like those who have no hope. He is our anchor for the soul—the hope that does not disappoint, the peace that holds, the promise that stands (Romans 5). Like Simeon, we are called to live eagerly waiting—not passive, not asleep, not distracted by the noise of earth, but actively waiting, faithfully serving, lives poured out before the Lord, eyes fixed above.
Jesus is still on the throne. He always will be. And He is coming back for those whose hearts are set on Him. What a glorious promise to cling to—what an assurance to carry through the hardest days. Christ has already secured the victory on the cross. We already know who wins. We already know the end of the story.
So we must not lose sight of eternity—ever.
Hebrews 12 calls us to set our eyes on Jesus, and Simeon lived that way. He kept his eyes toward the promise, and in the appointed moment, the Spirit led him right into the presence of Christ. That is the posture we are invited into—to live so near to the heart of God, so yielded to His Spirit, that we do not miss the moment He is moving. To be found waiting well, serving faithfully, with our lamps lit and our hearts awake.
There is a day coming when He will wipe every tear from our eyes—the ones we cried openly and the ones we buried deep inside (Revelation 21:4). He will fulfill every holy longing we have carried on this side of eternity (Psalm 37:4). He will make all things new (Revelation 21:5). And oh, what a day that will be—to hear Him say, “Well done” (Matthew 25:23).
Until then, may the Lord wrap His blanket of peace around our hearts, even as He stirs within us a holy urgency—to eagerly work while we wait for His return. Just as Simeon recognized Jesus and welcomed Him with joy, may we be found with hearts that know Him and eyes that see Him. And when He comes again—the One who gave His life for us, with nail-scarred hands—may He find us ready, watching, waiting, and welcoming Him as He takes us home.
Today's Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Teach us to live with hearts like Simeon. Fix our eyes on eternity, and guard us from distraction. Lord Jesus, stir in us a holy anticipation for Your return. Help us to be found faithful, serving and watching as we wait. Be our peace on the hard days, and our anchor that never fails. Holy Spirit, help us recognize Jesus as He moves, and give us hearts ready to welcome Him with joy. And when that day comes—when we see You face to face—may we be ready, waiting, and full of expectation, bringing others with us. We love You, and we eagerly wait for You. In the Name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
