JOY: Jesus, The Others, Then You

Saturday, February 10

Philippians 2:3-4 (NKJV)
“Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”
Devotion

Today’s verse suggests that, when we are doing something for someone, we should do it wholeheartedly as if benefiting our personal affairs. Our God who is in heaven has compassion for us, and he is not a selfish God. Why then are we as humans so consumed with our interests? Is it that we lack the understanding of knowing God as our reward? Give and it shall be given unto you; give and wait for the harvest. Don't be afraid that the person you are serving can not pay you back.

Our God has all the resources. Don’t be concerned about getting the recognition your kindness “deserves.” God sees everything. Your reward may not look like someone else’s but know that every good and perfect gift comes from our Heavenly Father (James 1:17).

Keep giving; God will honor His promises. Give one to another as unto God and He will give to you. Keep giving without hesitation, trusting that God will honor His assurances, resulting in a bountiful harvest.

Fear not, for this path of giving is one of abundance, where unique blessings unfold according to divine plans. Trust in God's faithfulness, continue giving generously and witness the fulfillment of promises beyond measure.

Today’s Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
I thank You that on the cross, Jesus considered our interests and need for salvation as more important than his own. He emptied himself to serve us. Help me to follow his example and consider the needs of others as more important than my own. Show me how I need to die to myself to be of better service to Jesus. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Apply It Today

Today’s exhortation should not weigh us down with duty. Wherever you are giving of your time, your money, or your effort on behalf of others, do it as if you are saying “I love you” to the recipient and to the Lord (1 Corinthians 13:1-3). If you can’t do that, pray for God to open your heart to giving and service that you can do cheerfully (2 Corinthians 9:6-7).
