Kneeling Before The Living God
Saturday, March 29
1 Samuel 5:2-4 (NKJV)
“When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon and set it by Dagon. And when the people of Ashdod arose early in the morning, there was Dagon, fallen on its face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. So they took Dagon and set it in its place again. And when they arose early the next morning, there was Dagon, fallen on its face to the ground before the ark of the LORD. The head of Dagon and both the palms of its hands were broken off on the threshold; only Dagon’s torso was left of it.”
Devotion
When you are no longer in control, God says: “I am in control.” Turn your face to God and know that when you are in a bad place (like the belly of a fish), and you are unable to help yourself from addiction, a bad relationship, and abusive situation, God can turn your life around and bring salvation, deliverance, and healing.
In Nineveh, the number one deity that they worshiped was Dagon, a half fish, half man, god. Perhaps God was thinking: ‘I will send a weak man who came from a fish to preach repentance for them to hear and listen.’ They repented and the Lord relented from sending calamity to the Land of Nineveh.
Sometimes, we come to a point that we have tried everything in our power to change and do things our own way, but we always fall flat on our faces. When we idolize other things and let it rule over us, we succumb to depression, fear, anxiety and even turn to other forms of addiction. We make travel a priority. We use shopping as an outlet. We do all sorts of activities from obsession on getting fit and trim, to making all sorts of adjustments to our faces and our bodies. We become too self-absorbed, full of greed, and bent on accumulating more wealth and forgetting our first love - Jesus Christ our King. “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” (I Timothy 6:10 NKJV) Money in itself is not bad. Getting fit and taking care of yourself is a good thing. Looking good on the outside however, is not the same as
living right. “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33 NKJV)
When we put God first in our lives, the things that we need are provided for. Our health is
improved and we are able to serve Him with energy and enthusiasm. When we prioritize God, repent from our wicked ways, seek Him, and love the Lord our God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength - He prioritizes us - He lifts us up from the mire we are in, restores us, and shows us a better way to live. God wants us to enjoy life and see many good days. He desires for us to live a holy and righteous life, pleasing Him in all things and glorifying our Father God in heaven. What keeps you away from worshipping God fully? Is there an idol in your life that you need to give up?
Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
I ask You to reveal the idols I have in my life that take Your place. Lord Jesus,
have mercy on my soul. Forgive me for wanting so many things and neglecting my worship and spending time with You. Help me to rearrange my life and my schedule to put You first in all things and enable me to seek You with a humble and repentant heart. I love You Lord and I surrender all to You! In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Apply It Today
“Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” (James 5:16 NKJV) Jesus paved the way to have access to the throne of grace to the Father. God’s love has set us free from the law of sin and death. By the blood of Jesus, we are reconciled to the Father. Confess your sinfulness before God and be forgiven. Worship the Lord our God and serve Him only.
Repent, surrender everything to God, and ask Him to show you what needs to be removed from your life. He is able to keep us from falling and present us blameless on the day of judgment. We will give an account of everything we have said, thought of, and done.
