Marriage Is Sacred
Tuesday, February 18
Matthew 19:3-6 (NIV)
“Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?” “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
Devotion
Marriage is a serious commitment and should not be taken lightly because it is a covenant made before the Lord. Why do you think Jesus himself uses the terms “bridegroom” and “bride” to describe his return for the church? Therefore, it is important to know that God is a covenant keeping God and He takes covenants very seriously. This is why it’s truly important to seek Him diligently before making any decisions concerning entering into a covenant or breaking one.
Because you are seen as one in the spirit when you enter into the covenant of marriage, before entering, it is crucial to seek the Lord first and be sure this is who He is joining you together with and not the desires of the flesh. Marriage is a beautiful thing in the eyes of the Lord and should not be mocked.
Once in covenant, it is important to know that no threefold cord can be easily broken and centering your marriage around God is the only recipe for a truly successful and blessed marriage.
