Mary’s Devotion To Jesus

Sunday, May 11

Luke 10:41-42 (NKJV)

“And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

Devotion

Like Mary, we need to sit at the feet of Jesus. Our heart should be fully consecrated to God, and He should be our only focus. God should come first. He should be our priority. We ought to love the Lord our God and serve Him only. All other things are simply an offshoot of our love for God.

When we put God first, there is peace that passes all understanding; there is joy that knows no bounds; and there is unconditional love that flows and overflows in our lives. [19] And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)

Sometimes, like Martha, serving becomes a burden and we complain and grumble about tasks that need to be accomplished. When our heart is not right with the Lord, we are so caught up in ministry work and serving others that we forget the most important thing to do. We are made to praise and thank God, to worship Him in Spirit and in truth! Our priority is to love God. [37] Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’” (Matthew 22:37 NKJV)

Serving God should never be a burden. Helping others should come from a grateful and surrendered heart. When we put God first, all our needs are met. He is faithful, even when we are faithless. Our Lord Jesus is able to make all grace abound in our lives. His love sustains us and even in difficult situations, everything becomes bearable. In His presence, there is fullness of joy!

We need the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit in our lives! We cannot do ministry without Him. Pray, receive, and be filled with the Holy Spirit!

Today’s Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
You are my all in all. I lay everything at Your feet, Lord Jesus. I am nothing without You. You alone are worthy to be praised. I set aside all my hopes and dreams and worship You, Lord Jesus. I am Yours, Lord. Have your way with me. Use me to be a blessing to others and let my life be a song of praise unto You! The life I live, I live for You. I live only to please You. Help me to keep my eyes on You, the author and finisher of my faith. Help me to keep still, waiting, at Your feet, listening to Your Words, and worshipping You - The Creator of Heaven and Earth! Nothing compares to You, Lord. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Apply It Today

Loving and serving God are two different things. When we love God and serve Him first, we are like Mary who sat at the feet of Jesus. We love God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength. Our focus should be in doing His will and pleasing Christ our King! Service on the other hand, may mean doing so many things and trying so hard to please God by doing acts of service and seemingly “good” things for others. But what is really important is pleasing the King of kings and Lord of lords and doing His will - to spend time at His feet, listen to obey and spend precious moments with our beloved Lord and Savior. Nothing compares to knowing God’s heart. When we are one with Him, it is second nature to obey and do the will of the Father.
