More Than Enough

Exodus 12:2-4 (NKJV)
“This month shall be your beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you. Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying: ‘On the tenth of this month every man shall take for himself a lamb, according to the house of his father, a lamb for a household. And if the household is too small for the lamb, let him and his neighbor next to his house take it according to the number of the persons; according to each man’s need you shall make your count for the lamb.”
Devotion

One lamb in this passage was enough for each household. In later passages, the blood of that lamb on a door post was enough for the death angel to pass over that house (Exodus 12:13-28). The meat of that lamb was enough to fill all the bellies in that household on the eve before a long journey, and in a small household it could be shared with a neighbor. The passages in today’s text speak of the Passover lamb symbolizing Jesus.

Let us remember today, that Jesus is always enough for us as well. That his blood which he gave so freely, was more than enough to atone our sins. His flesh, the meat of the Word of God, is more than enough to sustain, fill, and equip us for what is ahead. Lastly, let us remember that we are to share the lamb, Jesus, with others.

Today’s Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
I thank You that the Lamb is more than enough for my household and that Jesus is more than enough to share with those around me. I thank You for the encouragement from Your Word and from other believers to share Jesus through testimony, prayer, kindness, love, and declaration. Lord, may I overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of my testimony as I share Jesus, the Lamb of God with my neighbors. Open my eyes, my ears and my heart! Help me to open my mouth in obedience. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen!

Apply It Today

In modern celebrations of the Passover meal, it is common to include a song “Dayenu” (it would have been enough). The verses acknowledge that, had God only brought the Israelites through the Red Sea, it would have been enough. Had He only fed them manna, only brought them to Mount Sinai, only given the Law (Torah), each would have been enough. After each statement, the lilting refrain “Dayenu” is sung by all. Like a child with a generous, loving Father, acknowledge that Jesus, the Lamb of God, is more than enough – Dayenu.
