Potter’s Hands

1 Chronicles 4:23 (NIV)
“They were the potters who lived at Netaim and Gederah; they stayed there and worked for the king.”
Devotion
Our theme scripture today speaks of potters who formed pots from clay, planted gardens, and then set up hedges to protect the plants. God refers to himself as a potter in Jeremiah 18:6. Can you imagine the hands of God molding and shaping us into His image? He calls us to be potters as well- to make vessels by bringing others to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

The potters in this text went beyond making vessels; they continued to shape the vessels into something that held the fruits of the king which they planted, tended, and protected. As potters in this sense, we teach and encourage others, planting God’s word in them, showing them how to live life. We support, and encourage their growth as one would do for young plants while they are still weak. We encourage them to let go of things that are harmful to their growth such as the weeds in their lives. We take it further to water them with words of encouragement, and pray hedges around them. Lastly, we can celebrate the fruit in their lives.

It is a hands-on kind of work to be a potter, and it is one of servitude, not always noticed, yet so vital to the furthering of the kingdom. Let the Holy Spirit guide you and mold your life. Ask Him to help you to shape, and mold the lives of others for His Glory. If you have Jesus in your life then you have so much to offer. You have the potter’s hands.

Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
I thank You for Your loving kindness. Day by day, You mold and shape my life into all that You have intended for me to be. I surrender to Your loving will. I pray that You would open my eyes, that I may see the needs of those who look up to me. Use me for Your glory Lord. Anoint my hands with the potters anointing, and send me out in the power of Your Holy Spirit. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
