Pulling Them Out of the Fire

Tuesday, September 2

Jude 1:22–23 (Berean Literal Bible)
“And indeed have mercy on those who are doubting; and save others, snatching them out of the fire; and show mercy to others with fear, hating even the clothing having been stained by the flesh.”

Devotion

As the day of Christ’s return approaches, we race against time to save those who are perishing. Driven by His love, remembering the pit we were rescued from, mercy becomes the lens through which we see the lost. Hear the heart of the Father, as Jesus tells the parable of the lost sheep: “And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.” (Matt. 18:13–14)

God’s mercy extends compassion to the lost and needy, not judgment on their outward appearance. His mercy in us looks past the smell of flames from the enemy’s camp, ignores the pride and doubt of those who scoff at Jesus’ name, and moves in compassion to free the bound. “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy,” Jesus taught the multitudes (Matt. 5:7). As we have freely received, we shall freely give.

When God sends someone who needs our Savior or has lost their way, may we not turn a blind eye. Take the time to go further—point the way Home. This is a divine appointment. The Father has restrained the curtains of time, even for a little while, for those who would be saved and come to Him.

Today’s Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, I desire to be part of Your rescue team. As the day of Your return approaches, help me see the lost and unwanted through Your eyes of mercy. Grant me the urgency to speak words seasoned with grace, reaching them where they are. I pray for that open door. In Your Name. Amen.
