The Contrary Spirit
Saturday, October 11
Galatians 5:17 (NKJV)
“For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.”
Devotion
Have you ever wondered why you do the very things you don’t want to do? Or why, even when you want to do the right thing, you find yourself compelled to do the opposite? There are two spirits warring in you when you are halfway in and halfway out in following Jesus.
You are still influenced by the patterns of this world when you allow your old nature to take over your self-control. When you are fully committed and surrendered to a life of following Jesus, the Holy Spirit will now intercede on your behalf and enable you to stay away from sin and walk away from temptation. It takes a decision to let Jesus take full control and to partner with the Holy Spirit. When you are double-minded and easily swayed by all kinds of teachings, you are prone to be deceived. Be vigilant: the devil, the deceiver, seeks to devour the weak and the unprepared.
“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is” (Ephesians 5:15–17, NIV). Let no bitter root grow in your hearts. Forgive one another, as Christ forgave you. Do not give the devil a foothold in your life.
Today's Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
I have been deceived. I have given in to my old nature and have become undone. Forgive me and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. I surrender all to You. I partner with the Holy Spirit to guide me and help me walk in Your ways and Your truth, Lord Jesus. I am Your servant. Be it unto me according to Your Word. According to Your promises, I can stand secure. I love You, Lord, and trust You to know what is best for me, for my family, for my community, and for my nation. I yield my will and my purpose to Yours. Let Your will be done! This is my prayer. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Apply It Today
As you love God and seek Him with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength, surrender everything at His feet and yield to the Holy Spirit. Let Him renew your mind and give Him full access to your life. Let Him be the captain, your Master, your Redeemer, the Lover of your soul, Almighty God, who saves and rescues you from the pit! Do not hold back—be all in! Let Jesus shine in you and through you, for the glory of God alone! “The joy of the Lord is my strength!” (Nehemiah 8:10)
