The Fragrance Of Victory
Tuesday, April 15
2 Corinthians 2:14-16 (NIVV)
“But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life. And who is equal to such a task?”
Devotion
In Roman times, when a general returned victorious from battle, a grand parade would follow, an open display of triumph, complete with incense and fragrant offerings. Paul draws from this imagery to remind us that Christ has already won the ultimate battle, defeating sin, death, and the grave. As believers, we’re not fighting for victory; we are walking in it.
Jesus has already triumphed through the cross and resurrection. And now, we are part of his victory parade, living testimonies of his grace and power. Our lives carry the fragrance of Christ, a spiritual aroma that signals to the world that we belong to the Victor.
To some, this aroma is life-giving, a sign of hope and salvation. To others, it is a reminder of the judgment that awaits a life apart from Christ. Still, our role is to remain faithful and fragrant, to walk in boldness, gratitude, and purpose, letting our lives reflect the victory that has been secured for us.
Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the victory You have secured on the cross. Thank You for conquering death, sin, and the grave so that I may live in freedom and triumph. Help me to walk boldly in that victory, not as one striving to win, but as one who follows You in a glorious procession of grace. May my life carry the fragrance of Christ to those around me, pointing them to the hope that is found in You. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Apply It Today
Don’t live like a defeated soldier when Christ has already declared you victorious. Walk confidently in what Jesus has already done. Let your words, decisions, and attitude carry the unmistakable aroma of someone who has been redeemed and set free. Today, look for one way to spread the “fragrance” of Christ, through kindness, encouragement, or simply sharing your testimony of what He’s done in your life.
