The Right Artillery to Fight

Psalm 119:11 (ESV)

“I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

Devotion

The Hebrew word for "sin" carries rich and layered meanings. One of these is “pesa,” which means "to rebel." At its core, rebellion is synonymous with disobedience. The root of this word in Hebrew (S-W-R) conveys the idea of departing from the proper path.

With this understanding, Psalm 119:11 takes on deeper significance: "I have stored God's Word in my heart so that I may not be disobedient, rebel against Him, or stray from His path."

One of the foundational principles of living a redeemed life—a life that only Jesus could redeem—is knowing our Redeemer intimately through His Word. Engaging with Scripture is a pivotal part of growing into our new identity in Christ. It shapes our perspective, teaches us how to navigate life's challenges, and equips us to fight the spiritual battles we inevitably face.

Yes, fight.

We are called to be soldiers in the army of the LORD (2 Timothy 2:3-4), fighting for righteousness according to God's Word. It is crucial that we understand who we are fighting, where we are fighting, and why we are fighting. When we do, we allow God's victory to flow through us.

God has equipped us with a unique and powerful armor for this fight (Ephesians 6:10-17). His Word provides strategy, guidance, and all the spiritual artillery necessary for battle.

Now is the time to take a stand and fight! Let us examine our hearts and remember the purpose behind our fight.

May we be ignited with the Holy Spirit's fire to fight for the Kingdom of God and to bring souls into His glory.

Let us not flee in the face of adversity. Instead, let us stand firm, fully equipped, and ready to fight as we are called and empowered to do.

Let us keep the Word of God in our hearts—not just memorized, but treasured—so that we do not rebel, depart, or disobey Him. May we be armed with His truth, rooted in our hearts, standing firm in the battle, for His glory

Today's Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for providing everything I need to be victorious in this life through Jesus Christ. So, teach me Your ways, O Lord, that I may walk in Your paths. Cause me to be strong in the Lord and in the power of Your might. Show me how to stand in the evil day against the tricks of the enemy by skillfully using each piece of armor You have given me. Cause me to be strong in Your Word, and guide me so my feet will not slip. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Apply It Today

Proverbs 24:10 states, “If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.” How can one be strong when troubles arise? Verse 5 of the same chapter says, “A wise man is strong; a knowledgeable man exerts power.” Wisdom is the principal thing, and acquiring it comes from the Word of God (Proverbs 4:1–7). Valuing the importance of daily meditation on the Word of God to build your faith—and then declaring this Word out of your mouth—will mean the difference between winning or losing the battle.
