Time To Push back

James 5:16 (NKJV)

“Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”

Devotion

How often do we come face to face with adversity, whether it be sickness, calamity, or fear? How often do we go toe to toe with the devil?

We stand our ground, we resist, yet seemingly the opposition doesn’t budge. The mountain doesn’t move, the walls do not crumble. “As a man is, so is his strength.” (Judges 8:21)

In his message on Sunday, Pastor Franklin was teaching us about the aggressiveness and severity of an animal with its horn. The strength and power of that animal reside in its horn; all that the animal is, stands behind that horn. Like a battering ram, it will be the point of contact against its opponent.

What is standing between you and your adversity, believer? Who is the horn of our salvation? “He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David.” (Luke 1:69)

“Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, The LORD mighty in battle.” (Psalm 24:8)

There are times when we allow ourselves to get too close to the adversity and the adversary. We become intimidated and end up getting pushed back from the line.

“Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; When I fall, I will arise; When I sit in darkness, The LORD will be a light to me.” (Micah 7:8)

“For a righteous man may fall seven times And rise again, But the wicked shall fall by calamity.” (Proverbs 24:16)

So, go ahead brother and sister. Confess, pray aggressively, and grab hold of the horn of your Salvation, for the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man does avail much.

The devil has just picked a fight he cannot win.

Today’s Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
I confess that I am too proud so that I seldom confess my sins and trespasses to other believers. I also have few people I can truly trust with such things. O Father, am I even trustworthy for others to confide and confess to? Am I even trustworthy to pray for brothers and sisters regarding their secret sins and not give in to temptations to slander and gossip? What a wretched child I am! Father, make me a trustworthy prayer warrior. Also, bring me other trustworthy prayer warriors to stand with me against my own sins in the place of prayer. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Apply It Today

We tend to hide our sins, hoping no one will notice. We hope there is a time limit on guilt and shame but there is not. Today’s verse has power for spiritual freedom in it. God’s promises are true. If you do not have a trusted Christian pastor or friend who can pray with you, confess aloud to God, using the same words God uses for the sin. Pray fervently, as Pastor Franklin encouraged, until you receive this precious promise.
