Trusting God’s Plan In The Depths
Monday, March 24
Jonah 1:17 (NIV)
“Now the LORD provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.”
Devotion
Jonah found himself in a place of darkness and despair, swallowed not just by a great fish but by the consequences of his own disobedience. Yet even in this seemingly hopeless situation, God was at work. The great fish was not a punishment, it was protection. It was God's way of preserving Jonah for the purpose he was running from.
How often do we find ourselves in "belly of the fish" moments, situations that feel like failures, detours, or even divine discipline? In those times, we must remember that God's plan is always bigger than our perspective. What looks like a setback is often a setup for something greater.
Jonah’s time in the fish wasn’t wasted. It was a time of reflection, repentance, and preparation. Likewise, when we face difficulties, we can trust that God is using them to shape us, not destroy us.
If you feel trapped today, know this: God is still with you. His plan hasn’t changed. Let your "belly of the fish" moment become a turning point, drawing you closer to Him. Trust His process, He is working all things for your good. No matter where you are, God hasn’t given up on you. He’s just getting started.
Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your unfailing love, even when I run, even when I resist, even when I find myself in places I never expected to be. Like Jonah, I sometimes try to go my own way, yet You never abandon me. Even in the depths, You are there. Even in the waiting, You are working.
Lord, help me to trust Your process. When I feel trapped by my circumstances, remind me that You are not punishing me, but preparing me. Soften my heart to Your calling. Give me the courage to surrender, to repent where I have strayed, and to walk in obedience to Your perfect plan. I know that no situation is beyond Your redemption. What the enemy means for harm, You turn for good. Strengthen my faith so that even in the belly of the storm, I will not fear, I will trust in You. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen
Apply It Today
Pastor Franklin reminded us that God prepared the storm, God allowed Jonah to be singled out on the ship, and God prepared the big fish. Moments when we feel swallowed up can be terrifying, tempting us to turn inward and focus on self-preservation. Now that you see God never lost control over Jonah’s circumstances, submit your circumstances to Him and trust Him to protect and preserve you for His purposes.
