What’s Your Nile?

Exodus 7:19-21 (NKJV)
“Then the LORD spoke to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your rod and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their streams, over their rivers, over their ponds, and over all their pools of water, that they may become blood. And there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in buckets of wood and pitchers of stone.’ ” And Moses and Aaron did so, just as the LORD commanded. So he lifted up the rod and struck the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants. And all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood. The fish that were in the river died, the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink the water of the river. So there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.”
Devotion
Confidence…we build that onto things that make us feel safe and bring that sense of security in our lives - a relationship, a job, finances. The tendency we have sometimes to have full dependency on these things instead of God will drive us to having our own “Nile river”.
The Nile river was the Egyptians lifeline where they came for food, water, and even spiritual security. They put all of their trust into the Nile instead of the only One who truly deserved all their trust.
The result of the Egyptians putting full reliance in the Nile caused them to no longer have their source.
Today’s passage is such a beautiful reminder that God is our only source for all things - Not our relationships, jobs, or finances. He reminds us that anything we put trust in above Him, will be exposed and shaken in a moment.
God is the only source of life that never runs dry just as Jeremiah 17:7-8 says.
Our Lord and Savior wants to be your source of life if you let Him. He will never forsake you. God is a God of promise and safety.
Today's Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being the true and unfailing source of life. Forgive me for the times I have placed my trust in things that are not You, whether it be my job, relationships, or possessions. Expose any “Nile” in my life that I’ve allowed to take Your place. Help me to surrender my dependence on temporary things and to root my confidence in You alone. You are my provider, protector, and sustainer. I trust You! In the Name of jesus, I pray. Amen.
Apply It Today
Identify anything in your life that you may be depending on more than God. Write it down and prayerfully surrender it to Him. Then, intentionally shift your focus, spend time in God’s Word and declare scriptures that reaffirm Him as your source (such as Jeremiah 17:7-8 or Philippians 4:19).
