When Peace Is Taken Away
Tuesday, April 28
Revelation 6:3-4 (NIV)
“When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!”Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make people kill each other. To him was given a large sword.”
Devotion
As the second seal is opened in John’s vision, the scene shifts dramatically. A red horse emerges, and its rider is given authority to take peace from the earth. What follows is chaos, violence, and unrest on a global scale. This is not just conflict, it is the removal of peace itself. Humanity, left to its own brokenness, spirals into destruction.
These verses give us a sobering glimpse of what will unfold during the tribulation period after the rapture. It’s a time when restraint is lifted, and the consequences of sin are fully realized in the earth. What we see here is not just judgment, it’s also the exposure of what the world becomes without the presence and influence of Christ.
But for those who are in Christ, this passage carries a very different weight, it brings comfort and assurance.
As Pastor Franklin shared this past Sunday, according to the Word of God, believers can rest in the promise that we will not be here to experience these dreadful events. The rapture is not just a theological concept, it is a rescue. It is Jesus faithfully keeping His promise to gather His people before the outpouring of judgment described in Revelation.
That truth should stir both gratitude and urgency in us.
Gratitude, because we are covered by the grace of Jesus.Urgency, because there are still many who are not ready.
Scripture has never failed. It foretold the birth of Jesus, and He came. It spoke of His death, and He was crucified. It declared His resurrection, and the tomb is empty. It proclaimed His ascension, and He now sits at the right hand of the Father. In the same way, it speaks of His return, and that promise will also be fulfilled.
We are not waiting on a possibility, we are preparing for a certainty.
Today's Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the assurance we have in You. Thank You that we are not appointed to wrath, but to salvation through Jesus. Place a burden in our hearts for those who don’t know You. Help us to live ready and to share Your truth with boldness and love. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
