Worship The Sacrificial Lamb

Friday, March 15

John 1:29 (NKJV)

“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”

Devotion

Throughout the Old Testament, there were subtle hints of a death that would take away the sins of humanity. These hints are called the scarlet thread of redemption. But who was going to die for the sins of the world? Whoever it would be, this man would have to be sinless and spotless like a lamb. In Isaiah chapters 52 and 53, there's a description of the suffering servant. But who was he? If you go back to Genesis 3 you see the mention of a seed. That seed would be none other than Jesus himself.

For no other high priest would be able to do it. In Isaiah 10:33 scripture talks about a branch coming from Jesse. Jesus is that branch. He was the only one worthy to die for all mankind because Jesus was sinless, pure, and holy like God the Father. Only someone incapable of sinning or evil could do it. Jesus our High Priest took on the weight of all of our sins when he hung on the cross, knowing full well that this was the only way humanity would be saved.

Man is incapable of doing anything to earn salvation. But Jesus died once and for all. His blood was shed for us and his body broken so we could be free. He was not only the Son of David and the Son of man but God's own Son.
He's the Lamb that was slain in Revelations. He alone is worthy to open the scrolls.
All we need to do is look to him and be saved, receive this priceless gift he has given,
believe in him, and put our trust in him. He is worthy of all of our praise and
adoration, now and forevermore.

Today’s Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
I praise You for the sacrificial gift of Your Son, Jesus. You offered the only spotless Lamb to walk the earth, on my behalf. The love that You and my Savior portrayed with the cross brings me to my knees in worship. Forgive me for taking it for granted and not living up to my full potential in my walk with You. Help me to daily remind myself to walk like Jesus walked, full of love for You and others and one who desperately longs to win souls for Your Kingdom. Mold me into Your image and use me for Your purpose. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Apply It Today

On post-it notes or postcards, write the words, “Be like Jesus today!” Make several copies and place them in prominent places where you will see them at home, in your car, and at school or work. Keep those words at the forefront of your thoughts, so that you will become more mindful to walk in the footsteps of Christ, treating others, and ministering to them, as He did.
