You Can Be A Hero Of The Faith
Tuesday, October 20
Hebrews 8:12 (NIV)
“For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
Devotion
The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. Rahab’s sin did not disqualify her from her roles in rescuing the spies or bringing Jesus to the earth. Your sin does not disqualify you from being a hero through faith in the ministry God has for you in Jesus. Our temptation is often to think that some of our worst sins are a barrier to certain callings or ministries. Perhaps we are tempted to think someone else’s sins are a barrier to certain callings or ministries. Rahab is proof that is not true. The apostle Peter is proof that is not true. The apostle Paul was the “chief of sinners” and proof that is not true. The statement that God will remember our sins no more is proof that is not true.
Sure, by faith, we need to repent and ensure our repentance is complete, honest, and productive. We need to let Jesus wash us in His Word and make us holy. As we make every effort to add to our faith goodness; to our goodness, knowledge; and to our knowledge, self-control, we are changed by the Holy Spirit from one degree of glory to another. Certain New Testament ministries have specific qualifications, but as we mature and meet these qualifications, sins from our past are not disqualifications, regardless of claims by the world, the flesh, and the devil.
The all-powerful and all-knowing God is capable of forgetting our sins. If God has forgotten, and our sins are covered by the blood of Jesus and distanced as far as the east is from the west, then it is not the Holy Spirit reminding us. Sure, if a sin is actively continuing, the Holy Spirit will bring conviction and call us to repentance. Actively ongoing sins can and do disqualify believers from many ministries. But God has forgotten the sins we have repented of and left in the past.
Today's Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your forgiveness and the cleansing power of Jesus’ blood. Help me to leave my past sins behind, walk in genuine repentance, and grow in holiness. Give me the faith and courage to fulfill the purpose You have for my life. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Apply It Today
