Bearing Fruit

Monday, September 9

Genesis 1:11-12 (NKJV)
“Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.”
Devotion
As believers, we have been created, appointed and redeemed to be fruitful. We are blessed for fruitfulness. Just as God blessed Adam and Eve to be fruitful, we too have been blessed and equipped by our loving Father to be fruitful in everything we do (2 Peter 1:2-7) .

John 15:16 shows us that it was the Lord’s choice to give us the amazing privilege to excel in and exhibit fruitfulness. You may have experienced rejection in the past, but your Heavenly Father has chosen you to become His child. Besides choosing you, God has also appointed you for this assignment. In Matthew 28:19 Jesus commands us to go and make disciples of all nations.

In Matthew 7:16-20 Jesus tells how we can know what kind of fruit we are bearing. We must “bear fruit that is worthy of repentance” (Matthew 3:8). In the Bible, fruit represents the outward manifestation of a person’s faith; in other words, their works and behavior (James 2:14-26). After we repent and accept Christ as our personal Savior and make him Lord, he changes our hearts through the power and working of the Holy Spirit through sanctification. Sanctification is the process of being set apart for God's purposes, and it's driven by the Holy Spirit. It's a journey that involves aligning one's thoughts, actions, and intentions with God's will which is His Word(John 17:17). As a result, the Holy Spirit manifests in and through us the character of Jesus, also known as the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5). We can be certain that as we do our part in obeying God’s Truth, that He will cause us to be fruitful for every good work (Colossians 1:10).

“Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,..” ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭22‬-‭23‬.

Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,

I thank You for creating the seed bearing plants and trees that bear fruit with seeds in it. I thank You for the literal provision of food and for the metaphor showing me how by trust, Jesus plants his word in my heart as seed. Water the seed, I pray according to your promise, so that the word of Jesus grows and bears good fruit both inside and wells up to provide good fruit for others also who are watching my life and wondering if I can walk the walk. Cut off the things that will bear bad fruit so that I may bear good fruit for Your kingdom. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Apply It Today
It is the will of God that your natural and spiritual gifts multiply, that your faith, your peace, and your joy be multiplied. The seed of multiplication is inside you from the Creator. Is there an area where you have not had hope to seek help from God to multiply, perhaps because of limits on your circumstances or resources? If God put the seed there, and if through the cross and through the blood of Jesus, the blessing is from God, have enough faith to pray in Jesus’ name, with a “yes” in your heart, and see what God will do.
