Born To Be A Winner

‭‭Genesis 49:19‬ (NIV)
“Gad will be attacked by a band of raiders, but he will attack them at their heels.”
Devotion
In Chapter 49 of Genesis, we find the sons of Jacob were called to their father’s side and that he spoke to each of them. These verses point out that they heard the voice of Israel, the name that God gave Jacob which meant “prince with God.” Jacob’s life was never the same after God spoke identity and destiny over him in this way. He went from Jacob “the deceiver “to Israel “Prince with God”, with one declaration by his spiritual father. Now Israel was passing on to his son’s identity and destiny. Today’s scripture looks at what he said about Gad.

In his message ‘Born To Win’, Pastor Jentezen shared, “A spiritual father can speak identity into their children, and God will back it up.” To Gad which means “A troop cometh” Israel declared that a troop may trample over him, but that he would triumph in the end. He was born to be a winner! This is a message for all sons and daughters of the King.

Although the future may hold for us intense struggle our destiny is not to stay in defeat. We’re born of God and God has spoken over us, He has given us identity as “more than a conquer through Him who loved us” (Romans 8:37). We were not born for failure but we “can do all things through Christ who strengthens us” (Philippians 4:13). We were not born to be insignificant but “we are His workmanship created for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we might walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10).

Sometimes we need to be reminded of our identity in Christ. Speak affirming scriptures over yourself. Make a list of scriptures that declare who you are in Christ beginning with the ones already mentioned in this devotional. Read them out loud to yourself often.

Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,

I confess that I have often neglected the Scriptures and promises of You speaking and singing over me. Open my ears, Lord, and help me to hear Your voice. Help me also to search the Scriptures diligently to be nourished by the daily bread You speak to my heart. Transform my heart and life so that one day, like Israel, I can hear what You are saying about the future of my spiritual children. In the Name of Jesus, I Pray. Amen.

Apply It Today
