Jude 1:6 NKJV
And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day;
Devotion
In our main text today, Jude is referring to a group of angels who did not remain in their original position of authority and instead chose to abandon their proper dwelling. The exact details of their actions and rebellion are not explicitly mentioned in this verse, but the implication is that they rebelled against God.
As a consequence of their rebellion, these angels were subjected to punishment. Jude describes this punishment as being kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness. This imagery suggests a state of imprisonment and isolation for these fallen angels. The purpose of their confinement is stated as being until the judgment of the great day, which refers to the final day of reckoning or divine judgment.
Sin and disobedience without repentance separate us from God. When we move away from the original blueprint of God’s plan which includes living a life full of praise, we are exposed to vices such as bitterness, frustration, and doubt which can lead to sin.
Sometimes it’s easier said than done, but as obedient children of God, we must praise Him in the good and in the bad. This is how “they” will know that we are His.
Today's Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
I come to you today asking for forgiveness, for the many times I have done things my way. The times when I didn’t see any light at the end of the tunnel and I decided to do things my way. The times when I rejected your word and embraced my fleshly desires. Open my eyes so that I may see your goodness and find rest in your faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Apply It Today
There’s no better time to make things right with God than right now. Repentance is a change of heart and mind that brings us closer to God. There’s no sin too big that He cannot forgive if you repent and return to Him.
