Fallen From Heaven
Thursday, June 11
Isaiah 14:10-12 (NKJV)
“They all shall speak and say to you: ‘Have you also become as weak as we? Have you become like us?Your pomp is brought down to Sheol, And the sound of your stringed instruments; The maggot is spread under you, And worms cover you.’“How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations!”
Devotion
The word of the Lord in Isaiah 14:10-11 speaks about the king of Babylon. A wicked and rebellious king who fought against God’s people and with God’s glory. But we know God does not share His glory with any man (Isaiah 48:11).
The Lord humbles those who fight for His honour and strikes down those who claim His glory. Herod did, and immediately God struck him (Acts 12:23).
Pride, self-exaltation, and rebellion had Lucifer thrown down and cut off from heaven permanently. Read Isaiah 14:12 and Isaiah 61:3.
There are many things praise does. It lifts up heavy hearts, it pulls down mighty walls and strongholds. Paul and Silas sang in prison, and the shackles fell off their feet and they were freed. God is glorified in our praises. Through life’s sorrows, pains, and struggles, we are chosen to praise, to worship, to exalt God because that is what we were called to do.
In Sunday’s sermon, Pastor Franklin preached on what happens when we worship and when we do not worship. Pride, self-exaltation, and rebellion are characteristics of not worshipping God, which breeds contempt and sway the people from God’s path of righteousness.
For the Lord is Holy and will dwell in the midst of righteousness. He will not share His glory with any man or angel. Not attending to our obligations makes us stray from the right path, which is a danger to our Christian life. We constantly ought to praise as He commanded that in all things we must give thanks (1 Thessalonians 5:18). And those who love the Lord obey and keep His commands and keep His words (John 14:23).
When people do not maintain the life of praise, they go down the wrong path and get bound. They become something they do not want to be. That is why Lucifer was cast down. He began to harbour greed, envy, and rebellion. He lost sight of his obligation as God’s angel. He began to waver; he sought to be like God, to rule, dominate, be higher than the stars, and mighty in heaven above his God. He lost his essence, and God cast him to the lowest depth of the earth.
Let us therefore live as Christians, asking God daily for His guidance so we do not falter. Not procrastinating for tomorrow, nor the next, but focusing on today and living each day for Christ. Putting on the whole armour of God that we may be able to stand against the adversary, the devil.
Today's Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for putting a praise in my heart and a song in my mouth. Let the first thing You hear from me every morning be thanksgiving to You for another day. You are my strength and my song. Inhabit the very praises I lift to You, for You are my God and King. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Apply It Today
Praise coming from the heart and verbally spoken truthfully acknowledges the omnipotence of our God, and not the devil. So praise, praise, and praise some more until the enemy is far from you! “Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.” Psalm 8:2
