He Prowls, But He Won’t Prevail

1 Peter 5:8 (NIV)
“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”
Devotion

Walking through a foggy tunnel that is dark and eerie is how this verse reminds us of
how the devil is always waiting in that tunnel. The devil seeks harm for us. He’s always
waiting in that tunnel of fog, lurking around to see when the perfect time is for him to
make a move…that is in our weakness. However, this verse isn’t meant to bring us fear
but rather to remind us to always have a clear mind and keep our eyes open. Don’t let
the chaos of life cloud your spirit and don’t sleepwalk through your faith.

It’s important to note that the devil doesn’t always appear in obvious ways, he comes
through temptation, distractions, jealousy, hidden sin. The devil thrives on our pain but
the good news is we have a God who removes our pain. God is your protector and
shield. The lion may be prowling but our Shepherd is stronger than he is.

The next time you feel that the devil is coming out of his foggy tunnel, tell him to get
behind you because you have the one and only, Almighty, Lord of all on your side.
When you are firm in the truth, you don’t have to fear the enemy. As James 4:7 says,
“submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” The
devil prowls in his tunnel but he will never prevail.

Today's Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being my ever-present help and shield. I choose to stay alert and sober-minded, knowing that my enemy seeks to deceive and destroy. But I stand firm in Your truth and declare that he has no power over me. Fill me with discernment to recognize his tactics and the strength to resist them. Thank You, Jesus, that because of Your victory, the enemy cannot prevail in my life. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Apply It Today

Ask God to reveal any “fog” in your life, distractions, temptations, or hidden compromises, that may be giving the enemy access. Then take one practical step today to clear it: whether it’s confessing a sin, turning off a distraction, or spending intentional time in prayer and the Word.
