In Remembrance Of Jesus

Tuesday, December 12

Luke 22:14-19 (NLT)
“When the time came, Jesus and the apostles sat down together at the table. Jesus said, “I have been very eager to eat this Passover meal with you before my suffering begins. For I tell you now that I won’t eat this meal again until its meaning is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God.” Then he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. Then he said, “Take this and share it among yourselves. For I will not drink wine again until the Kingdom of God has come.” He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
Devotion
Our theme verses today take us back to what has become known as The Last Supper. Jesus knew this would be the last time he would partake of a meal with his beloved disciples. Therefore, this wasn’t just another ordinary meal. This meal would institute a new kind of relationship between God and man, which would come to pass through the body and blood of Jesus, himself.

When man had to sacrifice an animal and offer its blood for repentance of sin, there was a chasm between God and man. However, Jesus closed that divide by not only covering our sins but giving us the ability to overcome sin. Because the perfect Lamb of God took our place and shed his blood, we are covered by the blood of Jesus when we give our lives to him.

Do we truly understand the sacrifice Jesus made? When we partake of communion in remembrance of him, do we really remember him with awe and wonder or are we just going through the motions? Are we overwhelmed by his love for us?

The last meal Jesus had with his beloved friends holds immense significance for us today. Don’t forget the greatest gift of all gifts, that Jesus’ blood was shed, and his life was given for you. Direct, continuous communion with him is possible.

Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Mere words could never suffice for the gift of Your precious Son, Jesus. Yet, in thanksgiving, I offer up my praises to You for providing the perfect sacrifice to cover my sins. I don’t want to go through the motions of communion without offering my sincere, heart-felt praise to You. Thank You for the blood of Jesus that was shed for not only my sins, but for my family and the entire world. I plead the precious blood of Jesus over my family and declare that they will all be led to You in a greater relationship than they have ever experienced. I decree that every chain of sin and addiction is broken, as I surrender my family fully to You. May we all walk in Your perfect plan for our lives, in awe and wonder of the gift of Jesus. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
