Lavished Grace For Unbreakable Lives

Ephesians 1:7-8 (NIV)
“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding,”
Devotion
In the film ‘The Unbreakable Boy’, we witness the remarkable story of Austin, a young boy whose life is marked by challenges, autism and a rare brittle bone disease, yet also by an unshakable joy that inspires everyone around him. Despite his struggles, Austin’s unbreakable spirit radiates hope, reminding us that our value and purpose are not defined by our circumstances but by the grace of God.
Paul’s words in Ephesians 1:7–8 remind us that through Jesus, we have been redeemed and forgiven, not because of anything we have done, but because of the “riches of God’s grace” that He has lavished on us. This word “lavished” paints a picture of abundance, of God pouring out His love and favor beyond measure.
When we look at Austin’s life, we see a glimpse of this grace at work. His joy isn’t rooted in an easy life; it’s rooted in the deep, unseen truth that every life, especially a life that feels “different” or “broken”, is a canvas for God’s grace. Just as Austin’s story encourages others, our lives, too, can reflect God’s lavish grace, even in our weakest and most painful moments.
If you are feeling broken, inadequate, or unworthy today, remember this: God’s grace does not just “cover” you, it lavishes upon you forgiveness, redemption, and purpose. You are not defined by your hardships. You can live as a testimony of unbreakable hope because of what Jesus has done for you.
Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the riches of Your grace lavished upon me. I confess I don't think I fully understand words like “riches” and “lavished” in this context, so my gratitude may be limited by my incomplete understanding. Open my eyes! Open my heart! Open my mind! May Your Word and Your Holy Spirit wash me and wash over me. Help me understand the riches of Your grace lavished on me. Help me understand so that I can share these things with others more effectively. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

How do you respond when you see someone fall short of expectations or literally fall down, break something, or cause embarrassment (in your eyes)? Lord, help us to act with grace and not to react with anger or making fun of that person. Incline our hearts to help, forgive, support, gently teach, or just let it go as fits the occasion and relationship.
