Lean On Jesus
Friday, August 4
Matthew 11:28-29 NKJV
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Devotion
How many of us are carrying a load we don't need to bear? How many of us are weary from the weight of the world, not realizing that Jesus wants us to truly rest in Him? Don't we realize that resting in Him can restore us and make us more usable for Him? What can we say no to more to say yes to Him more? What is Jesus calling you to do in your life that needs to be a priority over other things? Is it something that has the potential for future generations to be impacted by it? Can you look at your list of priorities and see what needs to be removed to make room for God's plan to unfold in your life?
All these are important questions for us to reflect on, especially those seeking true rest.
Today's Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
I surrender to You. I lay down the burdens and the weight I have carried for so long. I realize that Your gift to me is peace that surpasses all understanding and rest for my soul. I let go of my need for control and ask that You take charge of my life. I give You everything I have and everything I am. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Apply It Today
Holding on to things that weigh us down is not the solution. Lay your burdens down at the altar of prayer, and receive rest from the Father whose arms are open wide. He can speak to that storm and command it to be still.
