No Permission To Devour

Friday, September 27

Malachi 3:11 (NKJV)
“And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,” Says the LORD of hosts;”
Devotion

We have all been given a call by God to reach others for His kingdom. There is a plentiful harvest (Luke 10:2) waiting, but the spirit that devours does not want God glorified and will try to take back the harvest God has given you. You must have faith in God, for He will rebuke the devourer!

It might feel like the devourer is trying to consume and ruin the dream, the ministry, the business God has given you, but this should not come as a surprise. Ephesians 6 instructs us to put on the full armor of God so we can take a stand against the devil’s schemes (Ephesians 6:11), and 1 Peter 5:8 tells us our “enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” To assume we will never face opposition would go against what God’s word tells us. So, since we know we will face opposition and that the enemy is seeking to devour, what do we do? We give no permission to devour! We stand strong in our faith, even when opposition comes. We stand in full confidence that we will live out the call He has given us because we can trust that God will rebuke the devourer.

Today’s Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
I thank You that in Jesus I can have victory over the devouring spirits. Show me the sins, words of death, and lack of trust that give devouring spirits a place in my life and ministry. Help me take up the shield of faith to extinguish all the fiery arrows of the evil one. Put the sword of Your Holy Spirit in my hands and Your Word in my mouth so that I can rebuke the devouring spirits and the words of death they speak over my life. Help me to love the truth and to have my feet fitted with the gospel of peace every day – always prepared to give a reason for the hope that I have in Jesus. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Apply It Today

In the moment when the devourer appears, the stress rises, and we may be inclined to react in an ungodly way. Therefore pray that the Holy Spirit will turn your eyes upon Jesus in the moment so that you can pray. We need more of God’s power. Praise God that He cares for us!

Resources:

  • Opposition will come in life. The key is to handle the opposition God’s way. Be encouraged as you watch this excerpt, “When the Enemy Attacks.”
  • Read Matthew 5:10-12 and be motivated in your walk with the Lord, even as the persecution comes.
