Plead The Blood To Help You Forgive

Sunday, December 17

Hebrews 9:22 (NIV)
“In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.”
Devotion
We focus so much on forgiveness from God, that often we miss the opportunities this season provides to extend forgiveness to others. Jesus said, “But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” (Matthew 6:15) But that does not make it easy, especially for some of our deeper wounds from people we trusted.

Note that today's verse does not say, “Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness from God.” It says, “Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” We need the blood of Jesus to extend forgiveness to others as much as we need it to ask forgiveness from God (and others).

All forgiveness comes from the blood of Jesus. Remember to plead the blood when tempted to harbor bitterness, resentment, or unforgiveness as the world, the flesh and the devil try and push your buttons this holiday season.

Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the blood of Jesus. I confess that I often struggle to forgive others, replaying the slights, offenses, and sins in my mind. Oh! That I would be able to obey Your instructions to love my enemies and forgive men their sins. I plead the blood of Jesus to cover not only my unforgiveness but to help me to forgive others from my heart. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Apply It Today
When you find yourself replaying bad memories or events in your mind – stop yourself as soon as you realize it. Confess the feelings that accompany that memory. Let Jesus know you want to come out of this harmful state of mind. Lay your burden down. Refocus your thoughts on things that are good with a short prayer like the one above, a scripture, or a song out loud, which helps to break the pull of harmful thoughts. Peace can be yours because of the blood of Jesus.
