Refuse To Host Jezebel
Thursday, November 14
2 Kings 9:30-33 (NIV)
“Then Jehu went to Jezreel. When Jezebel heard about it, she put on eye makeup, arranged her hair and looked out of a window. As Jehu entered the gate, she asked, “Have you come in peace, you Zimri, you murderer of your master?” He looked up at the window and called out, “Who is on my side? Who?” Two or three eunuchs looked down at him. “Throw her down!” Jehu said. So they threw her down, and some of her blood spattered the wall and the horses as they trampled her underfoot.”
Devotion
Notice, in verse 30 above, Jezebel’s haughty attitude when Jehu entered the city. Rather than hiding in fear of God’s vengeance, having a hardened heart and being the master manipulator she was, she mocked Jehu, no doubt trying to gain control and overpower him. Yet when he called to her attendants to throw her down, they immediately obeyed, and Jezebel fell to her death.
Even though Jezebel died a horrible death, her spirit is still very much alive within the world, including the church, today. Following Jesus’ instructions, John wrote to the church in Thyatira, in Revelation 2:19-25, that while He was pleased with their works, He held against them the fact that they tolerate Jezebel, the so-called prophetess, to teach and seduce His servants to practice sexual immorality. It is important to note that the Jezebel spirit can be within anyone, male or female. You need to look no further than some of our churches today to see her spirit at work through both men and women. It is obvious that we are the last day church to whom Jesus is speaking.
He continues with this warning: “I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. So, I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of their ways. I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.” We need to take these words of warning seriously.
If you are a member of a church where the Jezebel spirit is at work, pray for that church and speak to the leadership if you feel God directing you. If no change is made, search for a church where the Holy Spirit reigns supreme. If you have fallen into her spirit’s trap, turn to God and repent, take up your cross and follow Him wholeheartedly as He is giving you a chance to repent prior to His coming vengeance. Refuse to host or commune with that spirit!
To the church leaders, it is imperative that you rid your church of those with the Jezebel spirit, regardless of how big or small their role is within the church. Whether her spirit is within the lead pastor or the parking attendant, the powerful worship leader or Sunday School teacher, the head deacon or the usher, your biggest monetary supporter or your rock star youth pastor, it needs to be ousted! It’s time to stand up and be the leader God has created you to be and stop allowing satan to continue having a foothold within your church by refusing to host Jezebel any longer! It is time to come out from among them and be ye separate. There is no time to waste, as the coming of the Lord is near.
Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
I sincerely ask for Your forgiveness for any time I have hosted the Jezebel spirit in my life, within my family unit or church. I humbly repent before You now and seek Your wisdom in gaining spiritual discernment and ridding my life, my home, my church, and my nation of this evil spirit. The Jezebel spirit has taken down many great men and women of God, but it stops now! I refuse to give it access to my life or to any place or anyone over whom I have spiritual authority! I rebuke the evil spirit of Jezebel, by the power and authority of Jesus Christ, and I refuse to host it or allow it access to us anymore! In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Apply It Today
In order to recognize any evil spirit before it manifests or is brought to light, we must walk in spiritual discernment. The Word says we are to seek the spiritual gifts. As you draw nearer to God and become a student of His Word, seek from Him the gift of spiritual discernment so that you will be able to recognize and distance yourself from evil.
