Search Me
Sunday, October 1
Psalm 139:23-24 (NKJV)
Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.
Devotion
These verses contain challenging prayers. Our hearts are often tainted by the influences of this world, and we may become immune to these impurities without even realizing it. This prayer is a daily commitment, as following Jesus is a choice we make every day as Christians. We choose to lay our anxieties at the foot of the cross and continually allow God to guide us to higher ground. As He purifies our hearts, we may feel conviction.
A wise person once said, 'Conviction is like a hug from God.' He loves us so deeply that He wants to protect us. All sin ultimately leads to spiritual death, and God's conviction is His way of safeguarding us. When we walk in His everlasting path, we discover that His ways surpass our own, and obedience to the Lord is truly a precious gift.
Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
I give You glory, honor, and praise for Your hugs of conviction. Thank You for loving me so much that You would take the time to prompt me when I am out of line. I sincerely ask You to search me and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me from those entanglements and into Your perfect path. As you guide me, I will follow. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
