Secure in His Hand

Jeremiah 18:3-4 (NLT)

“So I did as He told me and found the potter working at his wheel. But the jar he was making did not turn out as he had hoped, so he crushed it into a lump of clay again and started over.”

Devotion

Today’s scripture reveals the mighty hand of the Lord and His desire for us to become who He created us to be. The Lord spoke to Jeremiah and instructed him to observe the potter so He could speak through the experience. Jeremiah obeyed and saw the potter crush the jar that didn’t turn out right. Verses five and six state, “Then the Lord gave me this message: ‘O Israel, can I not do to you as this potter has done to his clay? As the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand.’”

We are in His hand—not out of His reach, not hidden behind something, not wandering aimlessly. We are secure in the hand of a God who sees the beginning and the end simultaneously, who commands angels to fight for us, and who formed us with a specific call, anointing, and purpose. When He sees the enemy distorting that purpose, or when we return with a repentant heart after straying from His will, He does what He described to Jeremiah—He crushes us, allows us to start over, and reshapes us into what He desires us to be.

When you’re going through the crushing, when everything in your life is crumbling, when your world feels shaken—rest assured. The breaking happens in His hand. The molding takes place in the palm of the Father. There’s no safer place to be. That’s the truth you must remind yourself of in the breaking season, renewing your mind to make the enemy flee. You are securely held, divinely shaped by the Lord Himself. Count every step of the process as a blessing.

Today's Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You that You are the potter, and I am the clay. Shape me as seems best to You. I give You all the pieces of my broken heart. I trust and believe that You can, will, and want to make me something more beautiful and useful in Your kingdom than I can imagine or ask for. Let Your dreams be my dreams. Let Your vision be my vision. Let what seems best to You transform my heart and mind to align with Your will. I love You. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Apply It Today

As the potter, God’s hands are skilled. When we surrender to Him, He remakes us to be not only pleasing to Him but also more beautiful and useful. Read 2 Timothy 2:20-21 and Ephesians 2:10 to encourage yourself that God’s reshaping is to prepare us to hold His multiplication, represent Him, and bless others.
