Jeremiah 32:6-12 (KJV)
“And Jeremiah said, The word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Behold, Hanameel the son of Shallum thine uncle shall come unto thee, saying, Buy thee my field that is in Anathoth: for the right of redemption is thine to buy it. So Hanameel mine uncle's son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the LORD, and said unto me, Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: for the right of inheritance is thine, and the redemption isthine; buy it for thyself. Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD. And I bought the field of Hanameel my uncle's son, that was in Anathoth, and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver. And I subscribed the evidence, and sealed it, and took witnesses, and weighed him the money in the balances. So I took the evidence of the purchase, both that which was sealed according to the law and custom, and that which was open: And I gave the evidence of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, in the sight of Hanameel mine uncle's son, and in the presence of the witnesses that subscribed the book of the purchase, before all the Jews that sat in the court of the prison.”
Devotion
Jeremiah, and the nation of Israel, were in the midst of troubled times. The King had not heeded Jeremiah’s warning but had thrown him into a pit of mire! And now that Babylon had besieged Jerusalem as the prophet had warned, Jeremiah was shut up in the court of the prison. Things were just not looking good, and then the Lord did something surprising. He told Jeramiah to buy a field from his cousin! His cousin’s name was Hanameel which means “The grace that comes from God.” Jeremiah was to buy a field in Anathoth which means “answers i.e. to prayer”. Pastor Franklin commented that “Grace says buy in; believe what God says. Don’t buy into the bad, buy into the fact that better is coming.“
No matter what the present looks like, God’s inheritance is before us, and He prompts us to claim our rights to that inheritance by faith. Who goes about buying land in a situation like Jeremiah was in? Yet God was telling him to buy the land that was his rightful inheritance to claim. It was a task to secure a future and a hope! That is what God has for all of us- a future and a hope. Jesus has purchased it with his redeeming blood, our investment is our belief in Jesus as our redeemer. Acts 16:31 says “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved, you and your household” It is through belief in the Lord Jesus that we have a right to his inheritance for us.
For those who already are walking in faith, believe for the answers to the prayers that you have uttered, don’t let the present situation discourage you from holding on to faith in God’s promises, the faith that He hears and provides answers. It is in this faith we pray believing that God will answer the requests for our loved ones, ourselves, and the matters we bring to Him. We take tangible steps to act on our faith as Jeramiah did. It was confirmed to him that the Lord had spoken, and he acted in faith that no matter the present situation, he had heard the voice of the Lord and obeyed His instructions.
Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Oh, how I love to hear Your voice and know Your promptings. I honor You, and in doing so, I want to do my part to become close enough to You so that I may know all that You are speaking to me. I desire to follow Your perfect will for my family and me. As I commit to a personal time with You each day, delve deeper into Your Word, and spend time communicating with You, show me all that You want me to do on behalf of Your Kingdom, others, and myself, that I may do my part to receive Your full inheritance. I offer You praise for guiding my every step; and I commit to follow You in each one. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
