Seek And Find
Wednesday, July 24
Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
Devotion
Do you believe that God is real? The evidence is all around you in nature and in the complexity of your own body (Romans 1:19-20). If you have believed otherwise, ask Jesus to open the eyes of your heart to see. Did you know that Jesus was present and participated in creation? (John 1:3, John 17:5)
Today’s verse represents that it is possible for you to move close to God. This promise is astounding, and it is for you! Faith in this promise is demonstrated by you taking the risk to seek God. Whom does God reward? Those who earnestly seek Him. To seek means to look for something deliberately. In the Psalms, King David compared his seeking for God to a thirsty person looking for water in a desert (Psalm 63).
Do we deserve God’s answer? No. Can we think of others who seem more deserving of God’s attention for one reason or another? Yes. However, Jesus opened the way for this promise of drawing near to God for “whoever” seeks Him. The blood of Jesus was the payment for sin through his death on the cross and his resurrection.
Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for making Yourself real to me by raising Jesus from the dead and inviting me to trust and surrender. I confess that I seek Your hand more than Your face and that I often neglect repentance, thanksgiving, and worship. Teach me to seek Your company and Your will for my life. Speak life to my heart through Your Word, through worship, through Your Holy Spirit, and through those around me. Show me where I am chasing fantasies and lacking judgment. Show me the dreams that are really from You that I can wholeheartedly lay hold of and trust You will come through for me. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Apply It Today
Do you toss a prayer in God’s direction in a moment of need? It is good for your thoughts to turn to Him. But if you desire to get close to God, you need to be setting aside a regular time to seek Him through reading or hearing the Bible, prayer, and worship. Can you trust God’s promise that there is a reward there for you?
