Seek Him First

Matthew 13:22-25 (ESV)
“As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.” He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field, but while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away.”
Devotion
How many times have we allowed the cares of this world, or the deceitfulness of riches, to choke out the Word of God that we know to be true? When we do, we become unfruitful in our own lives. It’s true that we sometimes get so bogged down with “making a living” and going about our daily responsibilities that God gets pushed aside for another time. In reality, though, He should be our first priority.

Think of how much better our day could go if we would seek Him first and let Him guide us through each day. We would be able to make wiser decisions and accomplish much more than we do without Him, because we would be walking in His wisdom and strength resulting in us sowing in good soil. Jesus said that those of us who hear and understand the Word sow in good soil which results in us bearing fruit, as much as a hundredfold.

The next time we get “too busy for God,” let’s remember to put Him first and allow Him to guide us into sowing in good soil so that we can bear a bountiful harvest.

Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,

I humbly ask Your forgiveness for the times I have put aside my time with You and Your Word because of the cares of this life. Please put at the forefront of my mind the importance of studying your Word and spending daily intimate time with You, so that I may be able to make wise decisions which result in a bountiful harvest, especially spiritually. I ask this for myself as well as those over whom I am a spiritual guide. I give You praise, in the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Apply It Today
If you have never committed a specific time each day to get alone with God and glean from His Word, do that now. Give Him the time He longs to have with you and you will reap the bountiful harvest.
