The Cross Is The Door To Our Ark
Tuesday, March 12
Genesis 7:15-16 (NIV)
“Pairs of all creatures that have the breath of life in them came to Noah and entered the ark. The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as God had commanded Noah. Then the LORD shut him in.”
Devotion
The Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment. Other than the eight people and the animals on the ark, every living thing on earth that had the breath of life was destroyed by the flood. Noah was a preacher of righteousness, but only seven other people entered the ark with him.
The same water that deluged the ancient world symbolizes the water of baptism in which we put to death the old man of sin. One function of baptism is as a pledge of a good conscience toward God. If you have not been baptized into Jesus, what are you waiting for? Where are you stuck? Confront the issues in prayer and Scripture, and also ask trusted brethren to help you work through them. We can come to the cross and enter the ark, but if we reject baptism, have we really come to the cross?
If you have accepted baptism, then how are you doing maintaining that pledge of a good conscience toward God? Are you walking in good conscience and victory? Or are there hidden sins festering and growing and defiling your conscience? If private confession and renouncing to God have not yet brought freedom, perhaps you would do well to come into the light by obeying, “therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.” (James 5:16)
Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
I humbly come before You today and ask Your forgiveness for any way that I have not
followed Your Word and obeyed Your commands. Lead me to a spiritual mentor with whom I can confide and from whom I can seek wisdom. As You lead, I will follow as I desire to turn from the old and pick up the new way of life You designed just for me. I long to be one with You, Lord. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
