Your Miracle Awaits
Acts 10:25-26 (NKJV)
“When Peter entered, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him. But Peter lifted him up, saying, “Stand up; I too am a man.”
Devotion
Cornelius, a centurion, was an upright and God-fearing man who was spoken well of by the Jews. He was directed by an angel to send for Peter to come to his house so he could hear what Peter had to say. In response, he sent three men to find Peter give him the message of the angel, and ask him to come on his behalf.
It is very interesting to note that just before the messengers arrived at the place where Peter was staying, God gave him a vision in which He was revealing to Peter that Jesus came, not only for the Jews but for the Gentiles as well. This is very important since Cornelius and his family were Gentiles, and God was sending Peter to them with a message.
The Word tells us that while Peter was on his way, Cornelius didn’t just sit around doing nothing. Notice in Acts 10:24 that he was expecting Peter and the messengers, so he invited all his relatives and close friends to come. This fact reveals to us that Cornelius was expecting something wonderful from God that would come through Peter. He had an expectant heart.
When Peter arrived, Cornelius fell to worship him, but Peter quickly corrected him stating that he was only a man and not to be worshiped. He put the focus back on the purpose of his call to come.
After seeing all the people gathered, and hearing the details of Cornelius’ prayer and visitation, Peter told him that his prayer had been heard and his alms remembered before God. He went on to preach about Jesus. While he was still speaking, the guests were all filled with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Those who were with Peter were amazed because the gift of the Spirit was poured out on the Gentiles. Peter then commanded them to be baptized.
Notice within this story all the prayers, Words, dreams, visions, obedience, and expectations that took place from both Peter and Cornelius. May we be so close to God that we, too, are in alignment with Him and His desires for us during this time of prayer and fasting.
