The Lamb Prepared For Our Victory

Monday, January 27

Exodus 12:8-11 (NIV)
“That same night they are to eat the meat roasted over the fire, along with bitter herbs, and bread made without yeast. Do not eat the meat raw or boiled in water, but roast it over a fire—with the head, legs and internal organs. Do not leave any of it till morning; if some is left till morning, you must burn it. This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. Eat it in haste; it is the LORD’s Passover.”
Devotion
In the moment of the Exodus, when God was preparing to deliver His people from slavery in Egypt, He instituted the Passover, a powerful act of salvation that foreshadowed something much greater to come. This meal wasn’t just a ritual, but a powerful act of remembrance and a symbol of their deliverance. The blood of the lamb would mark their doorposts, and when God saw the blood, He would "pass over" their house, sparing them from judgment.
Now, as we look to the cross, we see the ultimate fulfillment of this Passover lamb in Jesus Christ. He was perfectly prepared for the task before him—without defect, sinless, and spotless—and his blood, shed for us, is the mark of our salvation.

1. Jesus is the Sacrificial Lamb:

Jesus was the only one worthy to be sacrificed for the sins of the world. He was the Lamb prepared from the foundation of the world to be our Savior (1 Peter 1:18-20). Just as the Israelites couldn’t use any old lamb, God’s perfect plan required the perfect sacrifice—Jesus Christ.

2. Jesus' Blood is Our Protection:

The blood of the lamb marked the Israelites' homes and protected them from death. In the same way, Jesus' blood poured out on the cross covers us, protecting us from eternal death. When God looks at us, He doesn’t see our imperfections, but the perfect sacrifice of His Son. Our salvation is secured not by anything we’ve done, but by the blood of the Lamb that shields us from judgment.

3. Walking in Victory and Hasten to It:

The Israelites ate the lamb in haste, with their sandals on and staff in hand, ready for the journey ahead, a reminder that they were in the midst of great deliverance. They were to be prepared to walk in the victory of their deliverance. The urgency of the Passover was a sign that the time for salvation had come. Similarly, the call to salvation is now. Jesus' sacrifice didn’t just bring us forgiveness; it brought us freedom. We are called to walk boldly in the victory he purchased on the cross, trusting that his sacrifice has made us more than conquerors (Romans 8:37).

The invitation to come to Jesus, to receive his sacrifice, and to walk in his victory is extended to us today. We must not delay, but eat the Lamb in haste—embracing his sacrifice and all the blessings of his finished work.

Today’s Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being the Lamb who was prepared for our salvation. Your sacrifice is the greatest act of love, and through Your blood, we are delivered from death and brought into life. Help us to walk in the victory You’ve secured for us, remembering that we are never alone on this journey. Give us hearts that are ready, prepared, and full of faith, knowing that You are the Lamb that takes away the sin of the world. In the Name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
