The Power of Confession
Thursday, September 4
Romans 10:9-10 (NIV)
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”
Devotion
Reggie Dabbs’ sermon emphasizes the power of bold faith and action, like the children of Israel shouting to bring down Jericho’s walls. Declaring “Jesus is Lord” with our mouths, as Romans 10:9-10 teaches, is a powerful act of faith that aligns with this call to stand in the gap and proclaim God’s truth.
From the very beginning of time, God revealed to us the power of words. He spoke, and light appeared. He spoke again, and the seas, the stars, and every living creature came into being. Creation itself is a testimony that words carry power when they flow from the heart of the Creator.
Since we are made in His image and likeness, the words we speak also matter. The words we speak reveal what is in our hearts and what we truly believe. Paul teaches that salvation comes when we not only believe in our hearts but also confess with our mouths. That confession is more than a ritual. It is a declaration that seals the reality of faith.
When you say “Jesus is Lord,” you are not repeating a phrase; you are declaring a truth that shakes the spiritual realm. Darkness loses its grip when a believer boldly proclaims Christ as Lord. Jesus Himself told us that if we speak to a mountain with faith, it will move. The words we speak in faith carry authority because they align with the Word of God.
Our confession is about salvation and how we live every day. When fear tries to speak louder than faith, we answer with the promises of God. When doubt tries to creep in, we remind ourselves by declaring His Word. Our words should echo the voice of heaven, not the noise of the world.
Today's Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the power You give words. Because of this, I acknowledge the times when I have been careless with my words, even the use of corrupt words. Please forgive me. Help me to be mindful to fill my heart with the Word of God, so that when I speak, I may bring life to my circumstances and speak blessing over the people you have placed in my life.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Apply It Today
Take time this week to be mindful of the words you speak. For example, where worry and anxiety exist, find scriptures on faith and peace to meditate on. Then out of the abundance of your heart, speak Scripture over your life, your family and those perplexing situations.
