Watch and See

Habakkuk 2:1 (NKJV)
“I will stand my watch And set myself on the rampart, And watch to see what He will say to me, And what I will answer when I am corrected.”
Devotion
Does it seem strange that Habakkuk “watched” for God’s word instead of “listened”? Receiving and living out God’s vision starts with “seeing” it. Habakkuk wasn’t just hearing God—he was looking for a vision. You must see it in your mind, picturing yourself in it, to walk toward it. Faith is for what’s unseen yet believed in your heart. Hearing matters, but visualizing God’s word helps you embrace it.
What has God spoken over your life? Can you see yourself doing it? When His word says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13), do you see yourself strong enough in Christ to tackle what’s ahead—whether overcoming addiction or starting a business? If God said it, He’ll do His part. You just need to see it and step out in faith. He’ll provide the vision and the guidance. “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans” (Proverbs 16:3).
As He shapes your plans, God gives you vision for each step and the bigger picture. If your vision is to be healthier for His purposes, that’s the goal. He’ll show you small steps—like exercising twice a week or walking to the mailbox—then building from there. Do you see it? Embrace His vision and start today.
Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you that you keep your promises. We confess that we are often unfaithful in waiting, in seeking you in prayer and worship and Scripture, and in too often substituting our own or other voices for yours without careful testing. Help us to be more faithful in standing in your counsel so we do not prove false, and we do not run without being sent. Help us to be more faithful in testing so that we reject what is evil and hold onto only that which you have truly spoken. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Apply It Today
As we consider God’s personal promises and vision in the face of challenges, we are encouraged by Scripture and by Pastor Franklin to wait on God, which includes watching. We can put Habakkuk’s example into practice as we go about our business by reading God’s word, praying, and watching prayerfully for what God will highlight through His word in our hearts.
