What's In Your Name
Thursday, May 11
Genesis 32:29-30
Then Jacob asked, saying, “Tell me Your name, I pray.” And He said, “Why is it that you ask about My name?” And He blessed him there. So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: “For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”
Devotion
When we are born our mother gives us a name and that is what we are known by for the rest of our lives. That name had a special meaning to her, maybe from her childhood, a dearly loved family member, a special place, or maybe it was a name she heard and loved instantly.
There's a lot in a name. Imagine your parents lovingly saying your name as they looked into your eyes and held you in their arms as a baby. Just as your birth family knows your name, so does your Savior. Every time He calls your name as He petitions the Father on your behalf, He is lovingly holding you. Find your rest there in His arms.
Today’s Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You, that Your love for me is so strong that You have my name written on the palm of Your hand. You knew me before You formed me and you set me apart, making good plans for me, to give me a future and hope. Please help me to remember this when I struggle with my identity, as I place my life in Your hands. Amen!
